How About An Intention? - Mindful Moment Monday
Hello Mindful friends! We did it! We made it into the new year… now what?
This is the time when we make resolutions, goals and introduce changes for the new year. We hope that the significance of this time will inspire us to wake up with change in our hearts and live with new purpose.
The idea sounds so inspiring and motivating and yet, 80% of our resolutions fail by the second week of February. And that DOES NOT feel so great….
What is a resolution anyway? Google defines it as a firm decision to do or not to do something, or the quality of being determined.
That doesn’t sound so bad.
What is a goal? Goals are the object of a person's ambition or effort; an aim or desired result. Thank you, Google. That seems alright…. but another report says 92% of us don’t achieve our goals, and we’re left feeling defeated, frustrated and less than.
Well how about an intention.
What is an intention? An intention is a guiding principle for how you want to be, live, and show up in the world.
How does that feel? A guiding principle (fundamental truth or belief system) for how we want to show up for life. How we want to meet the world and engage with it.
How will you show up for the new year? Today isn’t really different from yesterday. The date changed and there is a marked significance to a “new year” but we have the opportunity to start new with every breath, every day. And I dare to say that it’s less about success or failure and more about the intention we showed up with. We beat ourselves up so quickly when we don’t “achieve” a certain result. We compare and judge and criticize….the energy wrapped up in those feelings is heavy. We may then find ourselves filled with resistance.
Let’s start new right now.
Take a deep breath in, let it go. This is starting over.
Again, take a deep breath into the body, and release. We are new, fresh. It is really that simple.
Simple, but not always easy.
Often our goals and resolutions are aimed at the external. But what we forget is that the internal is where we gain the strength, endurance, patience and love to move towards those feats. So for today, let your intention be to move towards wholeness in this world. A breath to breath process.
Let’s build our muscles for starting new.
Closing your eyes, connecting to this moment.
Feeling your toes, feet and ankles.
This moment is new.
Feeling into your shins, calves, and knees.
This breath and moment is fresh.
Feeling your thighs, backs of your legs and hips.
Breathing into newness, bringing life into these areas.
Moving a fresh start into your pelvis and low back.
Breathing new life, new energy into your body.
Bringing revitalized energy to your mid back and traveling up your spine and upper back. Spreading into your shoulders, feeling your breath move into these parts, refreshed.
This is a new start.
Feeling your breath, let it bring awareness to your shoulders, down into our elbows, through your forearms and into your hands. This moment is new.
Bringing awareness into your fingers, feel each finger for the first time. Breathing into your fingers.
Take your hands and let them touch your lower belly. Feeling the physical connection to your body and notice the rise and fall of your breath. This too is new.
Bringing your awareness up to your belly button, up your sternum and into your chest. Feel your breath and let your heart expand and flood with new energy.
Connection to your heart. Connection to your breath. Connection to this moment. Connection to Life.
This too is new.
Feeling your awareness rise into your collar bone, your throat, up your neck and into your chin. Breathing into the feeling of your lips, nose, cheeks, and eyes. Let your eyes soften, breathing new life into your eyes. Breathing into your forehead, temples and moving your awareness to the crown of your head. This too, new.
Breathing, breathing, breathing.
Feel your whole body as one incredible, radiating field of new energy. Being with this new moment. New opportunity. New beginnings.
It is a new year. It is a wonderful time to signify rebirth. It is a perfect reminder that we can renew ourselves with each breath. When we feel lost, overwhelmed, fall off the wagon, are confused, in pain or scared, we breathe.
We breathe.
Our breath is our U turn.
Our breath holds our intention.
We breathe into the moment and we start again.
You are a different person than when you started this meditation. You are new. You hold the magic key to renewal inside you.
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Breathing with you into newness and towards wholeness, from my heart to yours….
