What Is The Cause Of Your Happiness? - Mindful Moment Monday
Hello everyone. And welcome to another Mindful Moment Monday.
As I speak to you now, I am sitting, looking outside my window, watching the sunrise.
I can hear the birds through the glass door. The sky has hints of light blue, white, and gray wispy clouds. And the horizon is filled with amber pink, reds, mauve and shades of purple. The trees are outlined as dark extensions, some thick, some thin, a few leaves are on the trees, but most are bare. A beautiful outline and skeleton against a tapestry of colors in the sky.
And as I sit here, I am reminded of the importance of how we start our day.
When we wake up, it’s easy to roll over and look at the phone, hit snooze, jump out of bed and make coffee or hop in the shower or dash out the door.
Our day begins with a rush. A quickened and hurried energy. You could say it definitely gets our blood moving.
For me, there is something sacred about the morning.
I try to meet each day with reverence and honor.
The tone that I first wake up with and cultivate before I've even left my bed is the tone that will carry throughout the day.
I try to feel into my body, through each body part.
I send appreciation and gratitude for my immediate senses, the warm bed, a safe home, a snugly kitty, and a stable breath.
And before my mind gets jumbled and filled with all the to-do's and requirements for the day, I settle into my being, my body, my consciousness.
I try to smile and to really look at my attitude,
my perspective and my happiness.
My happiness being a result of my causality.
Me being the cause, the root, the center of my happiness.
Not as a result of the effect of what happens around me.
Often our happiness or contentment comes from the effect of our external circumstances.
I will be happy when the house and the bills are paid.
I will be happy when my partner stops doing this or that.
I will be happy when I get the promotion.
All of these conditions that we place upon our happiness.
And because of this, we end up living in the future or the past, and we miss the opportunity and the gift of the present. Our happiness becomes a by-product of what goes on around us which is so much out of our control.
What if, when we woke up from our slumber and as we came into our bodies for the first time that day, we reminded ourselves we can be the cause of our happiness...
We have abundance that resides within us.
It's just there.
Our job is to find access to it.
Release the wounds, the stories and the traumas that have blocked us from remembering who we are.
And each day we get an opportunity to remember.
Before the day is upon us, we can set that tone.
Our happiness is a wellspring of joy and is the center of who we are.
It is the process of remembering.
This lives in each one of us.
Coming into our joy, our natural abundance.
Finding our center and beginning the day grounded in our authentic and free self.
And as we feel into our breath in this moment,
wherever you are in your day,
we get to tap into that groundedness, that center.
That freedom.
And if today was a day when you hopped out of the bed and you didn't allow yourself the time to find your center,
May you take this opportunity to do it now.
Feeling into your body,
moving body parts,
wiggling toes or fingers,
rolling your neck,
feeling your sit bones, if they are seated.
And if you're moving, pausing for a second and just checking in connecting to this moment.
Your eyes open or closed. There's no right or wrong way to check in with yourself.
May this be an invitation to start your day with a presence -
your authentic,
natural,
radiant,
compassionate,
grounded center.
And you can connect in whatever way feels good for you in that moment.
Setting the tone for the rest of your day.
And if the day goes by and you find yourself hurried and anxious, stressed, befuddled, confused, checked out, take this moment as a new beginning.
You get to do it all over again and ground yourself in this moment.
You being the cause of your joy, not the effect of it.
And you begin again and move forward.
You have the ability.
It is naturally in you to be free.
Sometimes we need to do a little work to uncover our freedom, our joy, our happiness, our bliss, but it is there.
Have faith, dear friend, that your joy and your freedom is waiting for you.
It is our birthright.
May today bring you peace.
May today bring you a foundation of strength.
May today be a gift, a reminder.
You've got this.
You do! You've got this.
You were made for this.
And I believe in you.
Let's take one more big, deep, delicious breath together. Releasing, smiling, feeling a moment of gratitude and appreciation. Thank you for showing up today for you. Thank you for being a part of this moment in history and in time.
May you have a wonderful and beautiful day.
Many blessings and love and light from this rising sun.
Be well with so much love from my heart to yours.
