A Moment to Reconnect - Mindful Moment Monday
Greetings fellow mindful friends,
Welcome to another Mindful Moment Monday.
Let's get right into it.
We are so disconnected. Traveling through our day, multitasking, trying to do all the things. And if we slow down, we may feel like we’re missing out on opportunity and being lazy or selfish. We’ve lost Connection to what is. We’ve blended the present moment with thoughts of future planning and stories of our past. And then the moment is gone and we lose track of time wondering where our time went or what did I actually accomplish?
Today we’re going to play with our awareness. A little game of Life. We’re going to spend time with what is actually going on in this moment and name it. And then, see if we can stay with what is, and allow it to be.
Settling into our practice for today, find a comfortable position. Eyes still open, staying present with your body. Taking a deep breath and resting for a moment. Bring your awareness to this next breath.
As we sit here together, let’s name what is. Ask yourself, “What day is today?”
You can say the day silently in your head, or whisper on your lips.
Monday… Monday… or Wednesday…Wednesday…
Can you be with what day it is? No judgment or story, just accepting something that you cannot change.
Whatever feelings or thoughts come with it, welcome them into this space.
Breathing into the reality of the day.
Breathing. Breathing. Breathing.
Let’s take this moment and scan our surroundings. No stories, just observe. Let your eyes fall upon the different parts of the area, just witness. Bring your awareness to the obvious and also to the subtleties.
Let’s name this space.
What room are you in?
Kitchen, Kitchen…. Living room, Living room…
What does it feel like to be in this room?
Let’s be with this reality of the moment.
Sitting here….
Breathing. Breathing. Breathing.
Bring your awareness to your fingers. Touching the tips together, wiggling or stretching each digit.
Let’s name this.
Fingers, fingers…. Or touching, touching.
Feel it. Move them.
Be with this sensation. Your awareness of your fingers…
Now place your hands in your lap and close your eyes.
Bringing awareness to our breath.
Breathing. Breathing. Breathing.
No need to change or control. Noticing your breath in this moment.
Gently bring awareness to your breath.
Now, feeling into your body. What’s grounding you? Are you sitting, standing?
Feeling into your connection to the earth. Noticing your hips and sacrum resting into the chair. Bring awareness to your feet as they touch the ground. Settling into this moment and current posture. Name this posture.
Sitting, Sitting….
Let’s be here with this posture. Feeling into our connection where we touch the earth, where we ground.
Welcome your awareness to this connection.
Sitting, sitting….
This is Life right now.
Breathing. Breathing. Breathing.
Now shifting our focus to our inner state.
What are you feeling?
There could be so many things we feel at one time….
Worry, worry…
Anxiety, anxiety…
Boredom, boredom….
Curious, curious…
So many things we think…
Planning, planning….
Judgement, judgment….
Analyzing, analyzing….
Racing thoughts….
So many thoughts, so many feelings.
Maybe all these things at once.
Maybe we don’t know how we feel.
Consumed with doing as much as we can, we may block our emotions and feelings. Choosing to numb, ignore or deny what we may feel…
Staying with our breath.
Breathing. Breathing. Breathing.
Let’s name what we feel. What do I feel?
And if it changes, name that too. It’s ok. You’re ok.
Bringing awareness to this moment.
This feeling. This thought.
Be with this. This is welcome too.
How about we invite a feeling or sensation?
Let’s invite a smile.
Bringing all your awareness to your smile.
Feeling your lips curl, your cheeks lift, your face light up and shift.
Let’s name this.
Smiling, smiling…
Imagine if, throughout the day, we checked in with ourselves.
Before we turned the key in our car, before the conversation with our friend or co-worker, before we see our first client of the day or cooked a meal.
What if we check in with ourselves?
Breathing. Breathing. Breathing.
They say emotions pass through us in 90 seconds if we just feel them as is, without a story attached.
90 seconds…
Breathing. Breathing. Breathing.
90 seconds could feel like a lifetime when we’re triggered. But with practice, we can learn to be with ourselves and our feelings and emotions. We can name what it is we’re experiencing and create a touch of space between the feeling and thought. I am not…. Fear, anxiety, shame, guilt, worried…. this is what I feel. It is not me.
There’s space in there…
Space for awareness.
Space for breath.
Space for allowing.
Imagine if we could be with this feeling. Not attached to a story, allowing…
Breathing into it.
Letting it know that it’s ok. It’s welcome to be felt. Just this…
Be with it. Noticing.
Back to our breath.
Breathing. Breathing. Breathing.
And when this is too much, we can bring attention and awareness to our body. Feeling our fingers rub together, feeling our hands on our legs, opening our eyes if we need to reorient ourselves.
Breathing. Breathing. Breathing.
Naming this experience.
Now opening our eyes, let’s bring our awareness back to this room.
Naming the room….
Kitchen, kitchen.
Bring your awareness to your body, hands, shoulders, neck, seat.
Bring awareness to your face, a smile, your breath.
This is you….
You’re here. And you’re ok.
Just here.
Now.
Breathing. Breathing. Breathing.
As you continue your day, may you bring curiosity to your awareness. What am I feeling?
Can I be with this? Can I be with this moment?
Breathing. Breathing. Breathing...
Until next time friends,
