Service Is An Act Of Love - Mindful Moment Mondays
Welcome everyone to another Mindful Moment.
As we begin our practice today, I invite you to find a comfortable position sitting or lying down.
Taking our position with dignity and reference - being comfortable and awake.
You are welcome to keep your eyes open with a soft gaze or close them.
Whatever feels best to you in this moment.
Begin to notice the sounds around you and not engaging with the sounds, unless of course, they need your attention.
Allowing them to fill the space around you.
Notice your breath, not trying to change it or manipulate it in any way and begin to anchor in.
Whether it be sensations in your body, feeling your hips and sacrum rooted, grounded, supported, we are anchoring into the breath.
Feeling it come through the nostrils
Feeling it in the chest, the rising and falling.
Notice the belly expanding and releasing.
We're going to take a few moments here to feel, observe, and witness.
Breathing,
breathing,
breathing.
Notice the space that's around you.
Feel the space that surrounds you.
The space that is always touching you.
And as we sit together in this moment, I'd like to invite today's topic to be about service.
How can we serve today?
We might look at service as large tasks that might involve many hours of volunteering, or financial contributions, which are wonderful acts of service.
However, there are other ways to serve as well.
We can serve humanity by sharing a smile to the person in the grocery store.
We can serve humanity with a gentle nod of the head as we greet someone in the post office.
We can hold the door open for someone entering or exiting a building.
We can offer a warm cup of coffee to our friend or partner and give that cup with love, appreciation, compassion.
Service can be offering a silent “Thank You”.
Service can be a hug to someone who is struggling.
Service can be a gentle touch on the shoulder or a hand to let someone know that they are not alone.
Service could be a friendly wave to your neighbor as you are headed home or headed to work
Service can be letting the person who is driving a little bit fast or trying to get ahead of you in.
Service could be making dinner for your family.
Service is an act of love.
It is a show of appreciation
It is sharing in compassion.
It is a moment of gratitude.
It can be a text to say, I love you.
A handwritten letter to thank someone for being there during hard times.
It could be an email or a phone call.
It can even be a silent moment of prayer sending loving kindness, good vibes, good juju into the world, to those who are in office.
Service is a way to send love and gratitude to those in our everyday life and those who we've never met.
It can be to the military, to presidents and global leaders.
To the family next door.
To your boss and coworkers.
To your friends.
To those who are serving in the hospitals, grocery stores, and gas stations.
To the tax collector and the trash collector.
This is an invitation to share your gifts of service.
And that can reflect in any way that feels right to you.
There is no wrong way to serve.
There is no act too small to be of service.
And as we sit together in silence for a few more moments, I invite you to ask yourself, how might I serve today?
How can I be of service?
How can I be of service?
How may I show love?
It feels good to serve and it feels good to be a part of this world.
To share in this experience of life.
To honor its sacred, sacred space that we all share together.
Feeling your body and connecting again to the space around you, deepening your breath.
Bringing yourself back into the presence of the room and your surroundings.
And as you begin this day, may you remember that we can be of service throughout the day.
Service feels good for those receiving and for those who are giving.
It is a simple act of joy, love, honor, respect, and acknowledgment.
May you be well.
May you serve well.
And may your heart be gracious and full.
Thank you for sharing this moment with me and thank you for sharing this moment with all of us.
May you serve with love and gratitude.
A big warm hug from my heart to yours as you go about this beautiful day.
